How to take your India e-Visa Photo at home

  1. Stand in front of a plain white or light wall with even light, so there are no shadows on your face or the background.
  2. Face the camera straight on with your eyes open, and show your full face from the top of your hair to the bottom of your chin. Taking glasses off avoids glare.
  3. Drop the photo above to get a square JPEG between 350 × 350 and 1000 × 1000 pixels.
  4. Keep the file between 10 KB and 300 KB: some Indian missions list a 1 MB limit, but staying under 300 KB works with both.

Common reasons your India e-Visa Photo is rejected

  • Not square, or smaller than 350 × 350 pixels
  • File under 10 KB or over the size limit
  • Shadows, a dark or patterned background, or a border around the photo
  • Head not centred or cut off at the top or chin

Uploading your photo to the India e-Visa

Upload the photo on the India e-Visa website while you fill in the application.

You also upload a scan of your passport bio page showing your photo and details — usually as a PDF between 10 KB and 300 KB, with all four corners visible and the text readable.
